Reflections on 'Multiface'

Multiface is a 36 × 30 inch acrylic painting on canvas. The piece explores how my identity shifts while I am doing something that is enjoyable yet stressful — the different faces those moments draw out of me.
I painted the main face first, then blocked in the surrounding areas with color, keeping to a desaturated palette so the mood stays subdued rather than cheerful. Once the paint was down, I used masking tape to divide the canvas into geometric spaces, breaking the single face into fragmented planes that echo the idea of a shifting, multi-part identity.
